The registered charity Wadeng Wings of Hope exists in order to make a difference in the lives of people in Southern Sudan. This charity was created by Jacob Deng, one of the Lost Boys of Sudan.
Wadeng is a Southern Sudanese Dinka word roughly translated to mean 'a better tomorrow'. This word, which was used often by his mother, gave Jacob the strength he needed whilst enduring an age long civil war when he was only 7 years old.
Throughout Jacob's lifetime, he has come to find that the only way in which to achieve peace in the world is through education. That is why Wadeng Wings of Hope is now trying to bring light into Jacobs war torn home town of Duk Padiet by building a school which will teach youth that there are more productive ways of resolving differences than war.
Inspired by Jacob's story, Jan L. Coates, a Nova Scotian author has wrote a book called 'The Hare in the Elephants Trunk' which is narrated by a 7 year old Jacob being forced to leave his village and embark on an endless journey through his disaster filled country.
